OUTDOOR CRAFTS

Saturday Only

Herb Planters: 10 am - 4 pm

Volunteers from Birmingham Botanical Gardens will help kids make herb planters using plastic water bottles. Kids can take planters home to watch the herbs grow.

Hair Bows (for girls ages 6 -12): 9 am - 3 pm

Girls can learn to make their own fancy hair bows in workshops at 9 am and 1:30 pm. Ciccy's Girly Stuff will have hair bows for sale throughout the day.

Auntie Litter: 10 am - 2 pm

Auntie Litter will teach kids her unique approach to the "Three R's: Reuse, Reduce Waste and Recycle." She will bring coloring sheets, activity books and litter bags for everyone who stops by. (She will take a short break at 1 pm to do a skit at the Kids' Show Under the Arbor at the entrance to the Kids' Korner.)

Saturday and Sunday

Wooden Whistles: 1 pm - 5 pm, both days

Elinor and Winfield Burks will help boys and girls alike make wooden whistles that really make sounds. What a treat!They will also have lovely homemade soaps for sale.

Bass Pro Shops crafts and workshops: 9 am - 5 pm Saturday, noon - 5 pm Sunday

Bass Pro Shops is bringing a big canopy to shade the kids while they do their crafts and attend workshops. There also will be an archery target and casting buckets so kids can see how well they can cast. Fishing workshops will heldat 1pm and 3pm on Saturday.Hunting/Gun Safety Workshops will start at 2pm and 4pm on Saturday.On Sunday, the Fishing Workshop will start at 2pm,and the Hunting/Gun Safety Workshops will startat 3pm. Adults will have the opportunity to sign up for on the Bass Pro Shop e-mail list to receive information about sales and upcoming events. Lots of giveaways and prize drawings will be held.

Pottery Workshops: 10 am - 3 pm Saturday
noon - 3 pm Sunday

Brenda Lindsey of Cahaba Clayworks will conduct workshops so kids can make their own piece of pottery to take home. Tena Payne of Cahaba Clayworks will donate the clay that will be used during the workshops. They also will demonstrate how to make pottery using a pottery wheel.

Frankie, the Sulcata African Land Tortoise: 9:30 - 11:30 am Saturday
1 - 3 pm Sunday

Have you ever seen an 85-pound South African Land Tortoise? Well, this is your opportunity to see Frankie as walks around Kids' Korner. Bring your camera and get your picture made with this unusual and lovable creature.

Leeds Fire Department: 10 am - 5 pm Saturday
1 pm - 5 pm Sunday

Firemen will offer fire safety workshops from the fire prevention trailer and the rescue truck. A local Explorer Troup will assist. Kids can leave with activity books, stickers, fire hats and pencils.

Covenant Bank: 10 am - 5 pm Saturday
1 - 5 pm Sunday

Sunday only

Clowns: 1 - 5 pm
Giggles and Matilda will make balloon creatures, hats and other fun things.

Doodles by Wendy: 2 - 4 pm
Wendy and her helpers do professional Disney-type face painting that both children and adults like to sport. Stop by and get a famous character painted on your face.

Corn Shuck Dolls and Paper Butterflies: noon - 5 pm
Carol Haygood will teach kids the lost arts of making corn shuck dolls and paper butterflies.

Woman's Literary Club: 1-5 pm
Lots of activity and coloring books and candy for the kids.

Loop potholders: noon - 5 pm
Old-fashioned loop potholders are back in style and as popular as ever. Pelham Juniorettes will help kids select colors and make a potholder to take home.
